Biography: Donald Peck, flute

Recognized as one of the finest flutists in the world, Donald Peck is renowned for his performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in concert and on recordings. He is in great demand as guest artist with other orchestras and major music festivals. He has performed at the Casals Festival, Carmel Bach Festival, the Victoria International Festival in Canada, and at Festival Australia. He is a prominent figure in chamber ensembles such as the Chicago Symphony Chamber Players and Chicago Symphony Woodwind Quintet. As an acclaimed recitalist, he appears frequently in cultural centers throughout the United States and Europe.

Born in Seattle, Washington, Mr. Peck graduated from the Curtis Insitute of Music. Before joining the Chicago Symphony at the invitation of Fritz Reiner, he played with the Washington National Symphony Orchestra and Kansas City Philharmonic.

A faculty member of DePaul University, he travels to colleges throughout the United states presenting master classes and flute clinics. Special summer master classes at DePaul University attract an international following of young professionals.

Mr. Peck was honored by Morton Gould with a flute concerto written expressly for him. Premiered in the spring of 1985 by Mr. Peck and the Chicago Symphony, conducted by Sir Georg Solti, the work and its performance met with critical and audience acclaim. The Chicago Tribune wrote, "The hero of the evening clearly was Donald Peck...One could not imagine a finer, or more dedicated realization".
